 Diving in Roatan

Roatan Diving

Tucked away in the Caribbean lies Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands, and one of the world's best kept secrets. Privileged by its location along the Mesoamerican Reef, this 77km-long island is known for its beautiful white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, breathtaking sunsets, and to divers from all over the world who come to explore the treasures buried beneath the waves.

Scuba Diving off of West Bay has significant upside. For starters, the wind usually blows from the south on Roatan, and West Bay is on the northern shore which is protected from the wind. That makes the diving conditions on West Bay ideal almost all year round. Then, it just so happens that one (if not the) most popular dive site (Mary's Place) is located just a few strokes away from the shore. The reef formation off the shore of West Bay is filled with canyons and crevices, and swim-throughs. The wall is spectacular and only yards away from the shore. Night diving is also excellent as the bioluminescence is easier to see in the shallow, clear, and still waters of West Bay.

40 Dive Sites to Explore

Roatan offers a variety of different types of dive sites. One can experience the thrills of wall diving and drift diving or glide amongst coral formations that line underwater canyons and swim-thru’s. Tackle the adventures of a specialty dive and explore one of several wrecks

Marine Life

Roatan is also teeming with macro life and our guides have a keen eye for the littlest of creatures. The west-facing side of the island is the most popular for divers due to calmer sea conditions and an abundance of marine life. Turtles, rays, eels, large sponges, pristine coral formations, lobsters, crabs and an amazing variety of reef fish are regular sightings in the area.
