The purpose oSignal Marker Buoyf the PADI Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) Specialty course is to familiarize divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, equipment, organization, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards, and excitement of diving with a DSMB.

This course will teach you how to easily, safely, and reliably deploy a DSMB; giving you the peace of mind that you are comfortable using this essential (though initially daunting) piece of equipment whenever you may need to.

Remember to follow Florida Law regarding a Diver Down Flag. A DSMB is not a replacement & does not meet those requirements.
Who should take this course?
Divers who require a line for visual reference when ascending from a dive, or scuba divers that need to ascend in or around boat traffic. With the delayed surface marker buoy (DSMB) you can make yourself present to overhead traffic, such as boats or jet skis. The DSMB is also a welcoming sight on drift dives for the captain of the boat when picking up divers out of the water. Marker buoys can be placed, when doing underwater mapping of a dive site or place to aid a Search & Recovery operation.

What scubaDSMB gear you will use?

  • Basic scuba diving equipment
  • Reel - 50ft or more
  • DSMB - open bottom that self-seals/non-spilling, over pressure/pressure relief valve.
  • Compass
  • Cutting Device - Shears, knife, or line cutter

What learning material do you require?
No manual is required, but a classroom knowledge development session will be given
A DSMB is an essential part of your safety kit and each scuba diver should own one. If you don’t have one, you can purchase one here.
